The ''Alchemist''-class Fleet Auxiliary is a class intended for the role of supporting a fleet. Unlike the [[Blacksmith-class Fleet Auxiliary|''Blacksmith''-class Fleet Auxiliary]] which specializes in armaments, munitions, repairs, and other similar expendables such as fuel the ''Alchemist''-class is built around providing consumables such as food, potable water, medicine and other similar items, to expand the effective range of a battle group past the duration of the on-board supplies and limited hydroponics capability meant to stretch those supplies present aboard ordinary ships of the line.

Because of the nature of much of this work, the majority of the ships systems are automated, allowing it to dedicate a maximum of space to hydroponics bays and other necessary spaces, as well as minimize the draw on these systems by the crew, allowing it to be more productive. Because of it's nature, it is not intended for combat, and only carries the bare minimum required in terms of armaments to deflect strike craft and missiles, carrying no offensive armaments, and very light shielding and armor.
