The ''Dragoon''-class of troop transport is capable of carrying up to a full battalion of marines or troopers, and their accompanying equipment (tanks, aircraft, powered armor, et cetera). In addition, to handle the complexities of dealing with ground forces, it also carries a greater medical staff and engineering staff than would otherwise be the case, to allow the ship to serve as a mobile support base. This would allow the ship to use shuttles for medevac transports as well as gunships, and also to repair damaged equipment. The ''Dragoon'' class of troop transports are primarily (though not strictly) named for famous military, service, or home animals.
==History==
The ''Dragoon''-class Assault Transport was originally designed during the [[War of Secession]]. It was intended to transport personnel and military equipment to [[Earth]], to support embattled forces, as well as provide an almost unassailable fallback point for medical care for forces. Furthermore, it was intended so that the shuttles aboard the transports could provide rapid transit for forces across the globe. Several transports were utilized to transport refugees and new citizens from Earth to [[Sanctuary]] during the war.

In the intervene centuries, the design has had a few upgrades, such as the inclusion of launch tubes for [[Reentry Vehicle Single Occupant|drop pods]], [[Hushed Casket Stasis System|stasis pods]], [[Echo Drive|subspace communication network nodes]], artificial gravity, and the inclusion of more powerful reactors.
