Common is the standard trade language within most of human space.

History

Due to the forced together nature of the earliest colony ships, where English was the most common, though not universally, spoken language, many colonists began adding or interchanging words that they knew or couldn't recall the translation for. The end result, by the time many of these colony ships had reached their destination and formed new districts and settlements, was that entire towns began speaking a slightly mutated form of English, which came to be known as "Common". Over the years, it has been largely standardized, however sections of it retain slang native to non-English-speaking languages. With the nationalism and racism inherent within some factions, several cultures have reverted back towards their native language roots, leading to a slight decline in the number of Common-speakers.
