The ''Corsair''-class light cruiser is a relatively recent construction, in the late 2400 to early 2500s. Because of an increased pirate threat, [[Central Command]] intended to build a series of light cruisers capable of catching up to the fast pirate raiders. Because of their experimental nature, the two ''Corsair''-class cruisers are marked as experimental.
==History==
The ''Corsair''-class Light Cruiser was constructed as an experimental class, with the first one being brought online in [[2501|2501 CE]]. Designed for speed and durability, the ''Corsair''-class included some major redesigns over it's predecessor, the [[Revenant-class Light Cruiser|''Revenant''-class Light Cruiser]], featuring a more stealthy profile, as well as stronger engines powered by an oversized reactor.

Since their construction, the ''Corsair''-class have proven their worth, with deliberations in the senate as to the possibility of building more.
