Design Details
The Needle Stunner fires a pair of non-penetrating darts linked by a conductive net. Built into these needles is a high voltage capacitor (variable, but typically set at 50,000 volts), designed to discharge when the needles hit living tissue, and the circuit is completed. This is intended to pacify a target without being fatal. Because the design does not require wires leading back to the stunner, it allows for targets to be engaged from further away (to an average distance of 50 meters) than tasers which had been issued prior to the development of the Needle Stunner, as well as to allow multiple targets to be engaged in quick succession.
The Needle Stunner is a magazine-fed weapon, typically in pistol form, though there have been limited conversions to a carbine version. Because of the narrow diameter of the needles, the power selection for the weapon is controlled by a firing computer, which selects the optimal setting to avoid causing injury to a target at close range.
