The Civilian Exo-Suit (CES) is a suit of powered armor intended for civilian use in heavy industry and space operations.
In comparison to military models, the CES is deliberately basic, intended for cheap and easy mass production and repair.
The helmet of the CES is designed with only the most basic systems integrated into it, containing self-contained air replenishers, basic computer systems for navigation and communications, and little else. The helmet itself is designed to be air-tight as needed for hostile environment operations, but has no integral armor plating like military models, instead being reinforced against environmental threats and little else. The visor is still capable of operating as a HUD, and polarizing to protect the wearers eyes, but does not have access to the majority of the military-grade sensors integrated into other suits.
The body of the armor is designed as a modular system, to allow components such as the greaves, gauntlets, pauldrons, and so forth to be exchanged or removed entirely as needed for repairs or modification. Deemed unnecessary and cost prohibitive, most suits lack the honey-combed armor plating, and dilatant gels, relying on a thermal-conductive gel to regulate body temperature, without the added protection that the diltant gels provided.
The water and waste reclamation systems of the CES are considered to be almost on par with those of the military models, solely for survival reasons, though these are housed throughout the torso and limbs of the suit.
The limbs are strengthened using twisted carbon nanotubes, but strands thinner than those of a military model, to prevent civilian suits from overpowering military suits in one-on-one, in order to minimize their use by renegade forces to overwhelm military units in hand-to-hand combat.
Civilian Auxiliary Forces Armor
The Civilian Auxiliary Forces Armor (CAFA) was authorized by the Civilian Auxiliary Military Forces Act (CAMFA) for use by approved civilian groups. CAFA suits are typically lightly armored, with armor plating about half to three quarters of the thickness of standard military armor. Furthermore, CAFA suits contain more advanced integrated sensors than the basic Civilian Exo-Suit.
The first Civilian Exo-Suits were derived from the program that designed the Combat Assault Suits from the Armored Exo-Suits used in the latter years of the War of Secession. The first CES's were sold in 2065 CE. The suits rapidly gained popularity in dangerous activities such as asteroid mining, orbital and deep space construction and repairs., and other similar fields.
