The Oracle Drive, as it is known, utilizes the Echo Drive to share sensor information from ships, scouts, and drones, in real-time through a subspace network and communications relays.
It utilizes a passive light-collection, analyzing light from distant sources and attempting to find out what it is through various means such as profile recognition systems, and so forth. It further runs the data through a large number of filters, managing to pick up details in infrared, thermal, and other various spectrums. Some modules of the Oracle Drive implement active systems such as radar to further augment the system.
The system keeps a record from every ship, backed up on Sanctuary, in order for people to review records of battles for both information & investigation purposes. Some of these uses allow for people to understand the shortcomings of various ships, as well as to sometimes see things missed in the heat of a moment, such as various tricks the enemy might use, or location details that're, otherwise, unknown.
