Ilia is the capitol city of Ares, one of the two planets in seventh position in the Arc System.
History
Ilia was founded in 2031 CE as the first settlement on Ares. It is located underground, approximately one-third of the way from the equator to the northern pole. As a combination of it's underground nature, and despite the heavy influence the military wielded in the city, the street map tends to be a 3-dimensional maze.
Following the War of Secession, Ilia has grown in fits and starts, with it's population barely growing, and occasionally even shrinking, as people head out of the city to find work either elsewhere on the planet, or offworld. As a result, sections of the city are considered dormant. Sections of the city are poorly mapped out, and as a result are sometimes home to unregistered residents. As a result, estimates of the city population reach as high as double the official registered citizen count of approximately 15,000.
