The Senate of the Initiative is one of the ruling bodies of the Initiative, handling the creation of most laws, and discussing large issues.
History
Created in 2035 CE, after the end of the War of Secession, the Senate was created to allow the former Governing Council to focus on other tasks suited to their various skills. The Senate, aided by the former council, created the majority of the laws that the Initiative lives by.
Duties
The Senate convenes monthly to discuss the various concerns and needs of the member planets of the Initiative, as well as helps Central Control determine what priorities for budgets and aid. They also advise the Protector of the Initiative on matters of domestic policy, but cannot override the head without a 3/5ths majority.
Membership
The Senate is made up of officials elected from their home planets, under planet-wide elections. The members of the senate are allowed to serve as long as they can be re-elected with a standard term lasting five years, but may be shorter if a sufficient percentage of voters from their home planets request a new election.
