History
The SFCV Robert Oppenheimer (MFF-02) was laid down at the shipyards of Jäger Tor (PO1-03) in the early 2200s, as a mobile fleet fueler, and a sister vessel to the SFCV Nikola Tesla (MFF-01). It served with the fleet as one of the mobile fuel refineries during the Sovereign Colonies Conflict, to avoid the contamination of captured fuel supplies by saboteurs. The Oppenheimer served through the next few centuries supporting the Ranger Exploration Corps by helping refuel scouts on their way out and returning to allow them to return to the field faster. In 2431 CE, the Oppenheimer joined one of the flotillas assigned to the Mithus System in order to avoid diverting resources from the reconstruction efforts for resupplying the fleet.
Namesake
The SFCV Robert Oppenheimer (MFF-02) is named for Doctor Robert Oppenheimer (1904 CE - 1967 CE), an American scientist on Earth, who helped develop the first atomic weapons.
