The RECV
Starfire (PS-00) was a prototype vessel that would form the basis of the
Imager-class of prowler in later years.
History
Originally designed in the mid-2010s, the Starfire would launch in March of 2017 to scout for potential sites for an off-world base for the fledging Initiative. As a result of the Starfire's highly experimental nature, it was constructed in secret in a remote region on Earth, prior to launch. It was uncertain whether or not it would succeed, but within several months, the Starfire would locate at least one system (Arc System) for further exploration and colonization, and begin preliminary survey work.
The vessel would return to Earth, and begin ferrying material and personnel to and from Sanctuary. It would be detected on a return voyage to Earth, with one of the later-built "colony" ships, in a sequence of events leading to the War of Secession. During the war, the Starfire would continue to help ferry material to Sanctuary as well as conduct orbital reconnaissance for the Initiative over Earth. However, the fate of the Starfire is unknown following the war.
Post-war, Starfire was retroactively given the hull number PS-00, placing it in the prowler category, and given the designation RECV.
Namesake
The RECV Starfire (PS-00) was named for Ranger Patrol Ship Starfire from the 1953 CE novel "The Last Planet" (also published under the title "Star Rangers") by Mary Alice "Andre" Norton, which was also the origin of the name of the Ranger Exploration Corps.

Alterations
Due to it's experimental nature, the RECV
Starfire carried minimal weapons at the time of it's launch, limited to only a few unguided rockets. The
Starfire also lacked artificial gravity, shielding, or a number of other modern amenities that would be considered essential. As a result the
Starfire, while forming the original basis of the Imager class, is smaller and less capable than it's later brethren.
