The Rider-class of courier was designed by The Initiative. The class was intended to free up warships from military and government courier duties in areas with less need for couriers to be able to repel attackers.

History

The first Rider-class couriers were designed in 2166 CE, to take over official courier duties in the safer inner colonies that had been handled previously by corvettes, frigates, and destroyers. As the number of pirate attacks on outer colonies has dropped, Rider-class couriers have expanded their operations closer to the frontier. Because of the relatively light needs of the military and government, many Rider-class couriers serve as interstellar shuttles for military personnel transferring from posting to posting, as well as covering government mail and cargo.
