The SFCV
Oliver Cromwell (XCC1-01/CC1-01) was the first
Emperor-class command cruiser launched by
The Initiative.
History
The SFCV Oliver Cromwell (XCC1-01) was laid down in 2133 CE, and launched the following year in 2134 CE. The Cromwell would largely see it's first few decades of use supporting planetary policing actions and similarly minor engagements.
The Cromwell would see its first real action during the Sovereign Colonies Conflict against the Sovereign Colonies. The Cromwell would suffer from a mutiny among its crew, as several attempted to wrest control while the Cromwell was accompanying a detachment of Hoplite-class missile cruisers. This mutiny was rapidly put down by the ship's marine detachment, with the majority of the mutineers being imprisoned on the ship's arrival at the detachment's staging point.
The Cromwell aided in the Siege of Kapu, aiding the Hoplite-class missile cruisers targeting computers, before supporting ground operations directly. Following the conflict, the Cromwell remained largely inactive except for the occasional anti-pirate raid, until 2502 CE, when it joined Task Force Winter.
Namesake
The SFCV Oliver Cromwell (XCC1-01/CC1-01) was named for Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell (April 25th, 1599 CE - September 3rd, 1658 CE). He was the first person not of the royal family to control England, Scotland, and Ireland, where he established the Commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland. He took the title of "Lord Protector", from which The Initiative gained the title of "Protector" for it's leader.
Furthermore, Oliver Cromwell was a leader of the "New Model Army" which was one of the first armies to be considered a professional army, not primarily led by noblemen or government officials, setting the standard for many armies that followed.
