The Siege of Tien was one of the final major battles of the Sovereign Colonies Conflict.
Overview
The Siege of Tien was the final major invasion of the conflict. It began late in the day of January 9th, 2238, with a several companies worth of marines being deployed to the ground, in an effort to capture the anti-air/anti-orbital defenses, to be used against any airborne defenses fielded by the Sovereign Colonies, as loyalist forces still on the planet attempted to assist in overwhelming the garrisons at the anti-orbital sites.
The initial assault was considered a disaster, as the majority of the insertion teams were decimated or captured, the Sovereign Forces having been alerted by the movements of the loyalist forces. As a result, fleet units in orbit were forced to bombard the anti-orbital defenses, hoping to saturate their defenses enough to allow shuttles to land and insert more teams. While several of the shuttles were downed, as were many of their escorting fighter craft, a sufficient number were able to land and deploy ground troops to eventually overwhelm the anti-orbital sites. With the guns offline, more reinforcements were able to land in many of the cities. However, with the renegade forces aware of the imminent assault, they were able to dig in among the populace or disperse to pre-arranged strongholds. With Central Command unwilling to dedicate more forces to the assault, First Division was forced to engage in a two month long battle for the planet.
