The SFCV Niðavellir (C13) was a Swordsman-class cruiser launched during the War of Secession. It would be decommissioned and scrapped following the Sovereign Colonies Conflict.

History

The SFCV Niðavellir (C13) was laid down at The Hive on Sanctuary, in 2023 CE. It would be commissioned the following year, to immediately join the fleet in action in the Sol System, primarily focusing on supporting military action on Luna.

It was unable to join the fleet during the Fall of Earth because of its duties supporting the base on Luna during a siege by multinational forces attempting to gain control of The Initiative's anti-orbital defenses. It would help bombard the multinational base during the counter-siege. It would remain in this duty until the expeditionary forces withdrew from Luna, and eventually the Sol system.

Following the war, the Niðavellir was unofficially mothballed for a span of a few weeks, before returning to the Fleet. It would remain in service until 2131 CE when it was decommissioned and scrapped.

Namesake

The SFCV Niðavellir (C13) was named for a piece of Norse mythology, Niðavellir (anglicized as Nidavellir, Dark Fields), also called Myrkheim (Myrkheimr, O.N. compd. of myrkr - "darkness" + heimr - "home": the world of darkness, Dark Abode) or Svartalfheim, is the home of the Dwarves. Hreidmar is the king of Nidavellir.
