The SFCV Niflheim‏ (C4) was a Swordsman-class cruiser that was active during the War of Secession.

History

The SFCV Niflheim‏ (C4) was built at The Hive on Sanctuary. It was launched in 2021 CE, and would remain active throughout the War of Secession. It received major during the Fall of Earth in 2031 CE. Because of the end of the war, and the costs of repairing the vessel, it would remain effectively mothballed until 2064 CE, after several less badly damaged craft had been repaired.

The Niflheim would remain in service until 2128 CE, when it was decommissioned to make way for the new Samurai-class. Although several companies expressed interest in purchasing the Niflheim‏, an in depth inspection of the vessel revealed severe structural damage stemming from prior battle damage. Because of the extent of the damage, Space Forces Command decided to scrap the vessel.

Namesake

The SFCv Niflheim was named for a piece of Norse mythology, Niflheim which is one of the Nine Worlds and sometimes overlaps with the notions of Niflhel and Hel. The name itself is said to to roughly translat to "Mist Home", the "Abode of Mist" or "Mist World", or possibly "World of Darkness", according to various sources.
