History
The CSPS Álfheimr (AC5) was laid down as the SFCV Álfheimr (C11) at The Hive on Sanctuary in late 2021 CE. The Álfheimr would be commissioned in 2022 CE, early on in the War of Secession, where it saw significant service harassing enemy forces as part of Second Fleet.
The Álfheimr would not be present for the Fall of Earth because it was one of a number of vessels detailed to help with an emergency evacuation of troops from central Europe. But following the Fall, it the Álfheimr was one of a number of vessels kept in orbit over Earth almost constantly until The Initiative withdrew from the Sol System in 2037 CE.
Following the war, the Álfheimr was one of a number of vessels not mothballed, instead being used to help scout out new systems, and support colonization efforts. It would eventually be used against some of the fledgling pirate groups in the mid-2080s, before being decommissioned in 2125 CE and sold in 2129 CE, after more than a century of service.
Namesake
The SFCV Álfheimr (C11) was named for Alfheim (Old Norse: Álfheimr, "Land Of The Fairies"), also called Ljosalfheim (Ljósálfheimr, "home of the light-elves"), which was one of the Nine Worlds and home of the Light Elves in Norse mythology.
