The Templar-class Battleship was the first class of battleship ever fielded by The Initiative, during the War of Secession, prior to the Fall of Earth.
History
The Templar-class of Battleship was designed to be able to out-gun the United Earth Force's (UEF) cruisers which were rapidly approaching being an equal to the Swordsman-class Cruisers. Construction on the first Templar-class battleships began in 2020 CE, after the UEF began harassing Initiative transports.
Following the Fall of Earth, the Templar-class was largely decommissioned with many of the vessels being converted into colony ships. Those that were not decommissioned and converted remained in service until the first Samurai-class cruisers were entering service, because of the Samurai-class' ability to outgun the aging Templar-class. The last remaining Templar-class vessels were decommissioned, with a handful being sold to the largest interstellar corporations for anti-pirate operations, under the mandate that the vessels be registered to the Civilian System Patrol.
