The SFCV
Brasil (C24) was a
Swordsman-class cruiser that saw service during the
War of Secession. It would eventually be scrapped in
2132 CE.
History
The SFCV Brasil (C24) was laid down in 2025 CE, at The Hive on Sanctuary. It would be commissioned in 2026 CE. The vessel was assigned to Second Fleet until after the Fall of Earth. It was one of the few vessels not mothballed following the withdrawal of Initiative forces from the Sol System in 2037 CE.
In 2101 CE the Brasil was involved in a collision with a civilian craft. It was drydocked for repairs, before returning to service. In 132 CE, it was decommissioned, while a decommissioning crew examined it, they found leftover damage from the collision in 2101, requiring it to be scrapped.
Namesake
The SFCV Brasil (C24) was named for Brasil, also known as Hy-Brasil or several other variants, which is a phantom island said to lie in the Atlantic Ocean west of Ireland. Irish myths described it as cloaked in mist except for one day every seven years, when it became visible but still could not be reached.
