History
The CSPS Fólkvangr (AC2) was built at The Hive on Sanctuary as the SFCV Fólkvangr (C7). It was launched in 2022 CE, to fight in the War of Secession, against the governments of Earth. The vessel had a largely undistinguished service record, until the Fall of Earth when it sustained serious damage. It required several weeks of drydock, but with the end of the war, was considered an extremely low priority. It was docked at the Loki Anchorage, and effectively mothballed until 2063 CE, when it would be reactivated and repaired to avoid the time and resource costs of building a new vessel to assist in patrolling the newly established colonies.
In 2129 CE, the Fólkvangr was deemed as surplus to the military's needs, and was put up for auction. It was purchased by an interstellar shipping company with routes frequented by pirate raiding groups. The vessel was allowed to keep its weapons, as per the Civilian Auxiliary Military Forces Act (CAMFA), and was designated as an auxiliary cruiser with the Civilian System Patrol, being re-designated the Civilian System Patrol Ship (CSPS) Fólkvangr (AC2), where it currently remains in service. Several plans to completely decommission the vessel and scrap it have been proposed, due to the extreme age of the vessel and the high costs of operating and maintaining it.
Namesake
In Norse mythology, Fólkvangr (Old Norse "field of the host" or "people-field" or "army-field") is a meadow or field ruled over by the goddess Freyja where half of those that die in combat go upon death, while the other half go to the god Odin in Valhalla.
